State Board Pass is independent practice. NIC, PSI, and state boards did not make or approve it.
What should the practice test mirror?
Choose cosmetology and your state before starting. Look for topic weights, timing, and clear information about the passing score.

Exam timing and passing scores differ
California's PSI cosmetology exam has 110 questions and allows 120 minutes. Its required number of correct answers is not published.
Texas's PSI cosmetology exam has 110 questions. It allows 120 scored minutes, plus 10 minutes for unscored items. Passing requires 70 percent correct on scored items.

Read more than the total score
Read the topic breakdown beside your total score. Find the topics where you scored lowest, and study those first.
If haircoloring scored lowest, review how color is chosen and applied before your next test. Then check whether that topic improves.
Separate unfamiliar terms from rushed reading. Practice saying confusing trade words aloud, then use them to explain the answer.
What to do after
Review a weak topic before taking another practice test. Try answering related questions without looking at your notes first.
In a full practice test, read the explanation of every miss. Compare your reasoning with the explanation, not just the answer letter.
Check yourself
Can you explain the main ideas of your weakest topic in plain words? If not, return to that topic before your next test.
Try a timed practice test after your review. Read each question and its choices carefully, then check whether the same topic still needs attention.
