State board written exam practice
Walk into the written exam knowing the paper.
State Board Pass draws every practice test by your own state's published topic weights, so your time goes where the points are. Safety and infection control is a quarter to a half of every paper, and that is where most of your questions come from.
20 questions, no account, a score at the end.
Independent practice. Not made or approved by NIC, PSI or any state board. Questions written by us.
Pick your exam
The written exam is set by your state.
The same license is a different paper in every state: different topics, a different number of questions and a different pass rule. Pick the pair you are testing for.

How the practice works
Weighted like your state's paper, scored like the real one.
Your state's own weights
A practice test is drawn topic by topic in the shares your state's outline publishes, not spread evenly. A paper that is half safety is practiced half safety.
Timed, like the real paper
The clock, the question count and the passing score match the bulletin for your state and license.
Every answer explained
Each question carries the rule section or the page its answer comes from, so you can check it yourself.
Practice or exam, you choose
In practice the answer is marked right or wrong the moment you pick it. In exam you see nothing until you send the paper, the same as on the day. You choose before the first question.
English and Spanish
Spanish with the English exam words kept.
Schools teach in English and the exam uses English terms, so every Spanish question keeps the English term in parentheses beside the Spanish one. You practice in the language you think in without losing the word you will read on the day.
Our own numbers
Pass rates nobody else puts on one page.
California publishes its exam results by school and by language. We put them on the page for the exam you are taking, refreshed when the board publishes the next quarter.
Questions people ask
The written exam, in plain words.
- What is on the written exam?
- The written state board exam is set by your own state, so the number of questions, the minutes and the pass rule are different from state to state. Pick your state and your license and the exam page shows the figures your state publishes.
- Is there a hands-on exam too?
- Some states hold a hands-on exam beside the written one and some do not. Pick your state and your license and the exam page says which, from what that state publishes. We practice the written exam only.
- Are these the real exam questions?
- No, and they never will be. Every question here is written by us from the published outline, the state rules and the named textbooks, and each one carries the source its answer comes from. Nobody may copy or sell the real items.
- What if I fail?
- You book again and pay the fee again. The fee and the waiting time are set by your state, and the figures for your pair are on that exam's page.
- Is State Board Pass official?
- Independent practice. Not made or approved by NIC, PSI or any state board. Questions written by us.
